Calcite and Scrounger!

Here is a guy I had alot of fun painting. His photo really doesn't work too well. I am going to have to do more experimentation with the camera. But it's a neat fig so I am throwing him up. I think he is the last member of the Black and Gold gang. I will do some shots of the whole group next time. I am still working on his powers. I imagine he can cause crystals to grow like crazy. I added some Plastruct hexagonal rod to the base after cutting some pieces into points to reinforce that idea. I am going to get another copy of him and go crazy with the NMM type techniques and see how that goes.

Here is a guy from way in the back of the drawer. The Scrounger! I really didn't do alot to him but its a fun fig and I love it. I am going to take this guy and add a few colors and see what happens.

Thanks for reading!

  1. More great stuff; the recent batches (even the old stuf) have all been the usual high standard.

What will we expect from your next 'theme' after the gold and black?

  2. "Calcite" seems like he could use more contrast, but overall the effect is solid, especially if he is supposed to be some sort of opaque mineral instead of metallic. I really like the hexagonal crystals on the base! Nice that you had plastic rod, I did something similar once and had to make them from putty, which was a pain.

The second guy is kind of plain but his visor effect is great. don't repaint that :)

  3. Thanks for the great comments guys! Calcite actually got highlighted up to pure white but the photo just sort of washes him out. I certainly could take another look at him though. Iron Ore from the last post, now that guy could use some more for sure. I got a little skittish, fearing I would mess it up, so I decided to stop where I was. Alison always highlights his stuff to perfection. Mine is close enough for government work as I have heard said!

  4. Oh if you want some hex rod I will pop a few inches in the mail for you. I have more than I will ever need.

  5. Oh hey, I never responded to that. Thanks, but it's pretty easy to carve such things out of the blobs of leftover green putty that I save for just such uses :)
